Peace, Be Still!

While filming along the shore of the Sea of Galilee on a late summer afternoon, we were fortunate enough to have this replica of a first century fishing boat sail by.   While setting up the shot, I couldn’t help but think of the account in Matthew 8, where Jesus and his disciples got into a boat and crossed to the Eastern side of the lake. Little did the disciples realize that they were about to encounter a fierce storm on this journey. Matthew 8:24 records that there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but Jesus was asleep. Matthew goes on to tell us that the disciples went and woke him, pleading for him to save them, for they believed they were about to die. Then, Jesus asked them, “Why are you afraid, O men of little faith?” Jesus then rose, rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. The stunned disciples then marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even the winds and sea obey him?”

If you find yourself in the midst of a spiritual storm–one that may have you wondering if you will even survive–I encourage you to call upon Him, knowing that He is still able to bring peace to the fiercest of storms. We invite you to check out the following link to our Lessons for the Harvest series, where Michelle expounds on Jesus’ calming of the Sea.
