The Origins of Christianity

This seminar explores the major issues and events surrounding the establishment of the Christian Church. Class sessions will highlight how Jewish beliefs, practices and institutions influenced and shaped early Christianity. Class topics include the following: The Early Jerusalem Community; The Mission to the Gentiles; Christianity and Pagan Society; Encounters with Paganism; Orthodoxy and Heresy in the Early Church; Early Jewish-Christian Debates; Christian Basics: Conversion, Baptism, and New Life; The Origins of Communion:The Eucharist and Agape Meal; and The Didache: Handbook of the Early Church.

Sundays, 9:45-10:40am, beginning February 2

New Testament General Epistles

This course provides a detailed treatment of the New Testament General Epistles. These works include The Book of James, I Peter, II Peter, I John, II John, III John and Jude. Each of these epistles will be examined from a historical, cultural and textual standpoint.

Mondays, 6-7:30pm, beginning February 3

A Journey Through John

Our Wednesday Evening Teaching Series, A Journey Through John, will resume with Chapter 18 for its final sessions.  This new Series continues to provide a verse-by-verse treatment on the Fourth Gospel.  Throughout this series, we will explore the historical, cultural and religious setting of the Gospel of John.  We will also highlight the many unique features of John’s Gospel.
